Welcome to the Year 7 section of the St John Fisher Catholic Voluntary Academy website.
Our year theme is “Leap of Faith”.
For Year 7 this involves our students being able to successfully manage the transition from their different primary schools so that they each become part of our St John Fisher student body. Our work begins with students when they are in Year 5 when we organise our primary school visits so that each student in our feeder schools has the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a St John Fisher student. This work develops in earnest in Year 6 when we hold a series of SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) days as well as the Year 6 transition visits. By the time our students enrol with us in September, we aim to make sure everyone has been introduced to all the key members of staff involved in working with Year 7 and that any concerns or anxieties have been alleviated.
To support these important visits, we also invite parents and carers to school for our New Entrants evening to provide an opportunity for any questions to be asked and important information to be exchanged.
Shortly after starting in September, students are encouraged to attend our “away days” at St Paulinus Parochial Hall which culminates in the very special Year 7 Rainbow Mass. During the Mass we celebrate all the different backgrounds of our new year group and bring everyone together under the one banner of St John Fisher Year 7.
During October of our first half term, parents will receive an invitation to school to discuss how their children have “settled” into life in secondary school with the form tutors. As the year develops, the Year group will take the lead on supporting our Operation Christmas Child charity (the Shoebox appeal) and will have the opportunity to experience a retreat at Myddleton Grange, our Reward Trip to Chatsworth House as well as the end of year residential visit to Boreatton Park for fun, adventure and challenge.
By the end of Year 7, the transition then comes full circle as we look for volunteers from within the year group to help us manage our new arrivals from Year 6 for the next academic year.
