Good luck to all of our students who are competing in the European Day of Languages Championship 2013! The competition runs until 3.30pm on Wednesday 2nd October and we are currently 6th (in the UK) in the Urdu competition and 13th in the Arabic competition!
The North Kirklees School Sport Partnership’s mission active took place in Huddersfield this week. The annual event for year 4 pupils included 24 school’s this week and involved over 1100 pupils across the partnership. The event gave pupils an opportunity to participate and compete across 8 different sports as well as receiving coaching tips and guidance. The activities covered Sports Hall Athletics, Dance, SAQ (speed, agility and quickness) and track events, Football, Rugby, Tri Golf, Cricket and a taster of Paralympic Sports.
Our leaders delivered 4 sessions throughout the day working in groups to coach the different activities. Each group worked with approximately 30 year 4 pupils at a time. The groups were a mixture of boys and girls with a range of sporting abilities; which really tested our leaders ability to provide tasks where all pupils were challenged but could succeed.
The event was a huge success and a lot of the plaudits need to go to our fantastic 6th Form leaders. The coaching and leadership for the whole week was provided by our 6th form, including A-Level PE and Btec Sport students delivering alongside qualified coaches and Teachers. The quality of coaching and the level of enthusiasm was exceptional from our young leaders and they ensured the week was a hugely enjoyable experience for all the pupils involved. Feedback from staff and pupils has highlighted how good a job our students did. It’s great to hear such positive feedback about our students and to have seen them in action, doing such a good job. Huge thanks and congratulations go to all our 6th Form Leaders. Well done!
A fantastic week of competition in the Year 7 House football competitions reached its climax on Friday with the boys and girls finals.
In the boys match, a talented and flamboyant Becket team were victorious by the narrowest of margins against a well organised, spirited More team. A clinical Tom Haley goal, following a flowing move, proving to be the difference between the two sides.
In the girls final, a Campion team, who had earned their place in the final due to a fine goalkeeping display against a dominant Becket team, could not repeat the performance a second time. They were overcome by a rampant More side who managed to put 5 goals past their opponents.
Well done to everybody who participated this week.
