WBD Reading Quiz

A group of enthusiastic Year 7’s participated the World Book Day Reading Quiz at Huddersfield Town Hall.

Lots of fun was had even if we didn’t win this time round!  Maybe next year.

Scholastic Book Fair

As part of the World Book Day celebrations we are having a Scholastic Book Fair in the Learning Resource Centre in school.
Students in Years 7 and 8 will have an allocated slot during their English lesson where they can browse the books on offer. Students in other year groups will have the opportunity to browse at break time and lunch time.
If students wish to purchase a book they are to complete the form in the booklet and return to their English teacher by Thursday 3rd March with the payment. Payment for books can be made by cash or (preferably) by cheque made payable to St John Fisher Catholic Voluntary Academy.
Scholastic Book Fairs are a great way for students to buy books at a discounted rate straight from the publisher and it also raises funds to buy more books for the school library and book boxes.
I am sure that this will be a successful event.
Happy World Book Day!

Year 6 Summer Reading Challenge

A book someone else wants you to read…
We want you to ask someone at home (parent, carer, grandparent, brother, sister, cousin, friend, cat – well maybe not the cat) to recommend a book to you that they have read and enjoyed. Click on the link below to find the activities that we would like you to complete and bring your results to school with you during your first week here at St John Fisher’s.
Happy reading!

The correct answer for those that couldn’t quite work it out was… JUDGE DREDD!

National Poetry Day 2012

Students in years 7 – 10 celebrated National Poetry Day on 4th October.  With English lessons dedicated to writing poetry, form activities and the official launch of The Poetry Games, National Poetry Day was a great success!  I’m certain that judging the inter-house poetry competition is going to be a tough job.  Thanks to all the staff who got involved and shared their favourite poems with the students.  Who knows?  The next Simon Armitage could be at Fishers now!

Fisher Focus

Welcome back!

At the start of this new term, and with so many enthusiastic new students, I am opening up some positions as co-editors on our school newsletter.
For those of you not aware, The Fisher Focus is a termly magazine with all the news about our school. We have lots to celebrate this term especially, with some incredible exam results and lots of exciting subject experiences to share.
If you have a flair for English, love to read or simply wish to get involved, please see me in M17 to put your name down. All years welcome.

Looking forward to working with you!

– Miss. Harris
